Hungary
There is a bowhunting exam that is mandatory for foreigner bowhunters. These exams are held by the Regional Chief Hunter delegated by the hunting authority and an expert selected from individuals proficient in bow hunting, appointed by the Central Organization of the Hunting Chamber. The experts are given from the Hungarian Bowhunting Association. We also have our own training materials for the preparation. The exam has 3 parts, a written, an oral and a practical part.
Hunting License: Foreign hunters must obtain a valid Hungarian hunting license and accident insurance. An additional exam is also required for bow hunting, which can be registered for at the hunting chamber and is held in various counties.
Accompaniment for Young Hunters: As of June 13, 2023, individuals aged 16 and over are eligible to participate in bow hunting, provided they have passed the standard hunting examination and an additional specialized exam for bow hunting. Young bow hunters must be accompanied by a hunter who has held a certified bow hunting exam for at least five years.
Hunting Permit: Secure a hunting permit issued by the Országos Magyar Vadászkamara (OMVK). Applications are submitted online through the OMVK's official website. You need to have a hunting licence in your home country. To obtain the permit, you should seek assistance from the hunting estate where you would like to hunt or from the hunt organizer.
Insurance: Hold valid hunting liability insurance covering potential damages caused during hunting activities. This can be arranged through the OMVK or other recognized insurance providers.
Firearm Permit: If bringing personal firearms, obtain the necessary import permits. Alternatively, firearms can be rented from local hunting organizations. (You don't need this for bows but can be mandatory for the permit)
Compliance with Regulations: Adhere to all Hungarian hunting laws and regulations, including hunting seasons, permitted game species, and equipment standards. For instance, bow hunting is permitted under specific conditions, such as using bows with a minimum draw weight of 50 pounds for big game.
Legal Game: All game species that are legally huntable in Hungary can be pursued using a bow and arrow. Birds and rabbits can be shot also in non moving position which differs from the regulations of firearms.
None, but you need the permission of the hunting rights holder in the area.
Bow Specifications: For hunting big game species such as deer and wild boar, the bow must have a minimum draw weight of 222.7 Newtons (approximately 50 pounds). Additionally, appropriate hunting arrows equipped with broadheads with a minimum cutting diameter of 2 cm are required. For small game hunting there is no minimum draw weight.
